VALDOSTA — Dr. Keith Lee Jr. from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences is the recipient of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø’s 2025 Blazer Creed Award for Integrity.

As the Blazer Creed states, Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø is a learning environment based on trust and mutual respect, in which open dialogue, vigorous debate, and the free exchange of ideas are welcome. The university is dedicated to the core values of community, including a commitment to practice the following:

Civility — A Blazer shows courtesy and compassion as well as respect for the dignity of every human being.

Integrity — Each Blazer is responsible for his or her own actions, and our community is stronger when we contemplate the context of our decisions and uphold the principles of trust and honesty.

Citizenship — Every Blazer has an interest in the wellbeing of the community and, therefore, a duty to stay informed, to make positive contributions, and to offer support to those who need help.

Lee exemplifies integrity through his unwavering dedication to his students and his genuine passion for teaching. He goes above and beyond to ensure his students succeed by offering extra help, fostering a safe and respectful classroom, and mentoring with care and encouragement. His commitment, empathy, and enthusiasm make him a trusted educator and role model at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø.

“Integrity means doing what is right even when no one is watching. For me, that means creating a classroom where every student feels welcome, respected, and supported, where there are no ‘bad ideas’ and no ‘stupid questions,’” he said. “It also means going beyond simply delivering content to make learning engaging and meaningful.

“Receiving this award reminds me that those efforts matter. It inspires me to keep refining my craft and to continue mentoring students with care and enthusiasm. My hope is that, years from now, students will remember not just what they learned but that they had someone who genuinely cared about their success and valued them in all their humanity.”

Lee joined the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø faculty on July 7, 2020, and currently serves as an associate professor of political science. He enjoys teaching undergraduate students and helping them discover confidence in their own ideas.
