Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø Investigates Criminal Minds
VALDOSTA — Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø’s Criminal Justice Outreach Program will present Re-Entry: Adult and Juvenile from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 31, in Student Union Ballroom A. The Critical Issues in Criminal Justice Seminar Series event is open to faculty, staff, students, alumni, retirees, and friends of the university.Re-Entry: Adult and Juvenile will take a look at the methods used to help criminal offenders successfully return to the community after incarceration.
Dr. Bobbie Ticknor, an assistant professor in Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø’s Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice, will discuss evidence-based reentry practices, principles of effective intervention and the risk-need-responsivity model, techniques to improve offender motivation, cognitive behavior groups for offender populations, effective reinforcement and punishment, relapse prevention plans, and reentry program evaluation.
Kelley Saxon, the Georgia Department of Community Supervision’s Lowndes County coordinator, will discuss local reentry efforts.
Participants can register online at /colleges/arts-sciences/sacj/criminal-justice/cjs-series.php. Advance registration is $300 for general admission, $150 for Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø alumni, and $75 for current Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø students, faculty, or staff. Employees from any Lowndes County criminal justice agency can register for a discounted fee of $225. Onsite registration will be available for an additional fee of $50. Registration includes continuing education unit credits, breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
The Critical Issues in Criminal Justice Seminar Series is presented in collaboration with Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø’s Office of Admissions, Dual Credit Honors Academy, and Pathways Program. It is funded by the Criminal Justice Outreach Program, which is supported by a 2016-2017 Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø Innovation Fund Grant. The Innovation Fund was created to invest in the future of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø by supporting innovative practices, programs, and approaches that continue to improve teaching, services, and support of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø students.
The Critical Issues in Criminal Justice Seminar Series will continue with Technology in Policing on May 12 and Diversion Programs on June 30.
