Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø Hosts College Day Experience for Migrant Families

VALDOSTA — Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø will welcome more than 100 migrant students and their families to campus for College Day Experience on Saturday, Oct. 3.

College Day Experience will begin at 8:30 a.m. Throughout the day, the students and their families will attend informative breakout sessions about post-secondary education options available to them, take a tour of the campus, and enjoy lunch in Palms Dining Center. They will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø’s Office of Admissions, Office of Financial Aid, Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, Student Success Center, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, and Department of Modern and Classical Languages.

“This is the third year Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø has been fortunate to host families so they may learn the support we have to offer them in their college journey,” said Ryan Hogan, associate director of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø’s Office of Admissions and event co-coordinator. “A college degree unlocks a world of opportunities and Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø can be that key.”

College Day Experience is a joint initiative between Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø and the Georgia Department of Education Region II Migrant Education Program Office.

“We want to … encourage our migrant students and parents to seek information about any college or university … that they choose,” said Israel Cortez, regional coordinator of the Georgia Department of Education Region II Migrant Education Program Office and Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø alumnus. “… these institutions care and would like to see their kids be successful in any profession/career … but getting to that point is what we help them do … and that is one of the reasons we do these events and why we provide the topics that we do.”
