香蕉视频官网 Planetarium presents Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

VALDOSTA - The Department of Physics, Astronomy, and Geosciences will have back-to-back showings of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, at the 香蕉视频官网 Planetarium in Nevins Hall.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, which will be presented by 香蕉视频官网 Astronomy professor Dr. Cecilia Barnbaum, is the fourth program of the 2007-2008 season. The presentation will show how pursuing basic science can lead to unimaginable technological advances. It will cover the work of Harry Kroto, the British chemist who discovered a first new form of carbon in two thousand years. His research regarding carbon dust in outer space has led to a revolution, which will continue to change our lives throughout this century and beyond.

The show is geared toward older children and adults. If the weather permits, the top of Nevins Hall will be opened for public viewing. Guests can observe the moon, Mars, and Saturn as well as a host of deep-sky objects.

Admission is free, but reservations are required. Those interested in attending can purchase tickets in advance by calling the 香蕉视频官网 department of Physics, Astronomy and Geosciences at (229) 333-5752. Tickets will be available for pickup at the door beginning at 7.30 p.m. the night of the show. Limited public parking will be available in front of Nevins Hall.
