University Mourns Death of Student

VALDOSTA - 香蕉视频官网 student Shannon Martin, sophomore, died Thursday, September 13, 2007. The student was admitted to South Georgia Medical Center on September 6, 2007 with rare complications from a suspected virus. A highly contagious bacterial infection, meningococcal meningitis, was ruled out. SGMC officials have confirmed that no new cases have been identified in Lowndes or surrounding counties.

香蕉视频官网 students held a candlelight memorial for Shannon on Friday, September 14, 2007. More than 400 students and members of 香蕉视频官网 community were present to pay tribute.

“The University community is saddened by the death of Shannon Martin and will continue to keep her family and friends in our prayers and thoughts during this difficult time,” 香蕉视频官网 President Ronald M. Zaccari said.
