African American Studies lecture series at 香蕉视频官网

Throughout February, 香蕉视频官网 will host a series of lectures that are free and open to the public. The series, "Know From Whence Ye Came: Preserving African American Traditions," will include four lectures. The lectures will explain African American customs and influences that affect African Americans today. The following lectures will be presented:

* "The African American Ring Shout Tradition in Coastal Georgia," 7 p.m. Feb. 3, will be presented in the Continuing Education Center. The presentation will feature 香蕉视频官网 folklorist Dr. Laurie Sommers and a performance by the McIntosh County Shouters.
* "Georgia's African American Historical Places and Traditions," 7 p.m. Feb. 10, will be presented in Powell Hall Auditorium. Architectural Historian Dr. Richard Cloues will give a lecture and slide presentation.
* "Preserving African American Traditions Through the Visual Arts," 7 p.m. Feb. 17, will be presented in the University Center Magnolia Room. Art historian and 香蕉视频官网 professor Dr. Joyce Davis and artist Kuanita Murphy will host the lecture.
* "Revelations," 8:15 p.m. Feb. 27 and 28, will be performed in Whitehead Auditorium. This contemporary drama by Tim Lee explores religious traditions of African Americans.
