"The Faculty Success Council (FSC) was established in 2019 to identify barriers to faculty success, find ways to remove those impediments, and support faculty as they inspire student success."
Much can be done to remove barriers to faculty success. The Faculty Success Council is asked to examine the following questions, propose solutions, and try to implement them:
- What barriers hinder faculty success, and what can be done to remove them?
- What would reinvigorate faculty and help them advance efforts to improve student success?
- How can we foster faculty innovation to drive meaningful progress across the institution?
The Faculty Success Council invites faculty members to submit suggestions through the Virtual Suggestion Box that may enhance their professional success. Comments, suggestions, and new ideas are forwarded to the council's co-charis, discussed with council members, and addressed in collaboration with relevant campus stakeholders. While the council is committed to considering and acting on all submissions, it recognizes that not every idea will be feasible or successful.
Sample Ideas and Actions:
- Took action on items in the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø Strategic Plan and the Academic Affairs Strategic Plan, such as the development of a new Core Faculty Status program featuring a peer teaching observation rubric, offered faculty training on best practices for increasing student engagement in face-to-face classes, and recommended strategies for amplifying instructor presence in online courses.
- Created a Virtual Suggestion Box through which faculty can choose to anonymously submit ideas about obstacles to faculty success and offer potential solutions.
- Surveyed all faculty to identify meanings of and barriers to faculty success. This presentation summarizes the responses to the survey.
- Surveyed mostly junior faculty hired in the past five years to identify barriers and supports for their success. This presentation summarizes the answers to this survey, and this presentation presents action items from the Faculty Success Council.
